For the past 7 years I have run a busy and successful teaching practice. In that time I've taught over 150 students of varying levels and abilities. I also work as a freelance guitarist so I can bring that 'live' experience to my lessons.
I have been playing guitar for 25 years, ever since my Dad unexpectedly presented me with an acoustic guitar one Christmas. I’ve never looked back, and in the intervening years I’ve also picked up bass, drums and piano. In 2002 during my summer holidays from University I attended a 10 week full time course at the Guitar Institute in London.
I have played with a number of bands throughout my musical career we have been fortunate enough to play to audiences across the UK and in Europe, with gigs in Germany, Austria, Portugal, Italy and Norway. I play regularly in Musical Theatre productions and I have experience working on cruise ships.
Styles - I teach acoustic and electric guitar, covering rock, pop, indie, blues, soul, funk, metal and folk. I can also teach classical guitar up to around Grade 4. However, more importantly than any specific style, I teach how to approach, practice and learn music in general. These disciplines can be applied to any style.
Level - I am very happy teaching any age and level of student from complete beginners to experienced players.
30 minute lesson – £18
60 minute lesson – £36
Location - I teach from my home in Sutton (SM1), which is 10 mins walk from Sutton train station and convenient to get to from Morden, Cheam, Carshalton, Banstead, Wallington and the surrounding areas.
Exams - I can support students working towards grade exams if required. However, this is not obligatory and it is entirely possible to become an excellent guitarist without taking grades. I have experience guiding students through Rockschool (RSL), RGT, Trinity Rock and Pop, Trinity Classical and Trinity Plectrum grades.
Frequency - Lessons can be booked regularly or on an ad-hoc basis. However, I strongly recommend regular lessons for the best possible progress, ideally weekly. Fortnightly may be enough for 60 minutes lessons, as long as you are motivated and disciplined enough to practice regularly between lessons.
Fee (30 minutes): £18.00
