Miss Vivienne Farris

I am a singer with a with a three octave range. I studied music and ballet as a child, starting piano lessons at the age of five, during which time I performed regularly at the Edinburgh Music Festival. I joined my first band at the age of 19, the post-punk Horrible Sexy Vampires, in whom Jo Callis of the Human League and Radio Oneís John Peel took an interest. Jo produced a single for the band and we performed at the John Peel Roadshow at Chamberís St Studentís Union in Edinburgh.

Since then I have sung and played in several other bands including the folk band, Rua, has sung in two operas, have formed two duo outfits, the Karma Violets (dance/techno) and Zephon (electronica/hip hop) and have performed solo as a professional jazz and blues singer. I also have several great recording sessions under my belt and have been gigging around Glasgow in the past year.

I also play and teach keyboards, write my own music, songwriting being part of my recent studies at the Academy of Music and Sound. I have also written stand-up comedy songs and would like to explore this as a genre. Last year I gained an HNC Music (Rock and Pop) and am currently finishing the HND in the same subject. During this time I have been regularly performing in a wide range of styles and a variety of genres, including post-punk, grunge, disco, funk, alt rock and blues. I now boast an extensive repertoire and can cover any songs I attempt successfully. I draw the line at death metal growling, although I may look into it one day if I get the time! My voice has been described as being similar to Pauline Black, Alison Goldfrapp and Clare Torry, who performed the vocals on Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky".
