I first picked up a guitar when I was eleven and have not put it down since. I started to get serious about it in my teen years mostly playing folk music and experimenting with playing other instruments like the banjo and mandolin.
I later found a friend who played bluegrass music and that brought another boost to my playing. I was excited by the complexities and instrumental possibilities that came with the music.
I also had a great love of rock music and listened avidly to music from both sides of the Atlantic from bands like the Allman Brothers, Little Feat, Jimi Hendrix to Cream, Deep Purple and Wishbone Ash.
I've been playing live music since my teens starting off in folk clubs and later playing in country music bands and then playing bluegrass with the Down County Boys who were awarded six consecutive BCMA (British Country Music Association) awards for Best British Bluegrass Band during my tenure.
I have toured in America, Sweden and Holland as well as touring in the UK, most notably with Joe Brown.
I currently play solo gigs and in various duos and bands playing as wide a scope of music as I can, not liking to be tied down to any particular genre of music.I also write and perform my own songs and instrumentals.
I've been teaching now since 2004 and really love doing it. It's really fantastic to see your students go on and become performers in their own right. There are few things that can match the sense of pride you feel in their achievements.
