Notes:

I am a freelance music lecturer/performer. Following the completion of a PhD at Manchester University in 2003 I taught at LIverpool University and the Royal Northern College of Music. I now run my own music school The Verdun Allen Music Foundation (history of music courses) and give private piano tuition at my home in Stretford. I currently play the organ at two churches: St. John's, Old Trafford and St. Matthew's, Stretford where organ lessons can be arranged.
I have over 20 years of experience in teaching piano, organ and music theory. Most of my students gain either a merit or distinction in ABRSM exams (average mark: 123/150). I am also happy to teach people who simply wish to play for pleasure or follow a different path (e.g. Trinity exams).
You will find me friendly, patient and encouraging.
A typical lesson would cover the following: scales, sight reading, playing of pieces, aural tests - so that students develop a systematic approach to practice and are well prepared for all aspects of the examination. The study of music theory is also encouraged to enhance the studentsí understanding of the music they are playing.
