I have co-run the ukulele group in a local junior school for over 10 years, and am responsible for arranging the music in various parts to take into account the differing levels of playing that the students can achieve. I have also taught piano accordion and guitar for several years, and specialise in arranging songs and tunes to suit the student concerned. I have over 20 years experience as a musician, my instruments also including mandolin, violin, baritone guitar, zither, autoharp, violin, banjo and whistle.
I have a full DBS certificate.
In addition to running a registered charity for unwanted small animals, I have been a musician for many years. I enjoy helping other people to get the most out of their instrument, and often it is the little hints and tips that make all the difference to enjoyment, performance and improvement, no matter what level you are at. You can find my Facebook page at

Genre/Style(s): I am flexible for genre and style and specialize in working out songs and instrumentals for either group or solo playing according to what is required.
Ability Levels: Beginners to Intermediate

Music should be fun, and this is reflected in the way I teach. Whilst teaching specifically for grades and exams has its place, my approach is different and is based on helping the student of whatever age to be able to relax and enjoy what they are playing, regardless of the level achieved. My teaching style is informal, as I know from personal experience that if you are tense and anxious you are unlikely to play well or enjoy it! I am able to record short films and audio tracks onto YouTube so students of whatever age can consolidate their learning by practicing along with the films - the links are provided with the lessons as appropriate.
I am reasonably flexible for times, so can offer slots at various times of day, but prefer not to teach at weekends due to my commitments to a registered charity for unwanted animals, for which I received my MBE. The basic fee is £10 for half an hour or £20 per hour, but for block bookings of minimum 5 lessons I can offer £15 an hour, payment in advance. The first session is usually free (just a chat really) as it is important for me to find out what you hope to achieve and what your musical preferences are, if any, so I can prepare specific songs or tunes to try and meet these aims.
