Singer and singing teacher, Rachel Blair has been teaching students of all ages and abilities since 2005. She has taught students from all over Wales and the North west and has taught in a wide range of the stge schools and music schools. Rachel began her training studying with Sandra Dugdale at the RNCM where she gained a 2:1 in Vocal Studies, she has recently finished her PGdip at the RNCM where she has been working with Mary Plazas. She has worked for the BBC on numorous occasions singing with Andrea Bocelli at the MEN and Joe McEllderry at the Lowry. During her time at the RNCM she has been actively involved in many of the opera productions including Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges, Janacek’s Katya Kabanova, Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène and Bernstein’s Candide. she was one of a small selection of RNCM students to be involved in the chorus of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas under the baton of Nicholas Kramer and alongside the Manchester Camerata. This production toured the North and North West before finishing with a concert at the RNCM which was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. During the RNCM opera scenes Rachel has played the part of ‘Elsie’ in Yeoman of the Guard and will be playing the part of ‘Ilia’ in Idomeneo in June.

During her undergraduate at the RNCM Rachel spent a year on an Erasmus Exchange at the conservatorio di musica in Verona, Italy. Such an opportunity allowed her to perform with the sinfonia filamonico as the soprano soloist in their performance of Rutter’s Requiem as well as a soloist at their annual Opera gala at Gran Guardia with singers from the Verona Opera Accademia.

In 2011 Rachel performed in a concert for Opera North’s Chorus. Rachel was the soprano soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elijah for the Aberystwyth Choral Society conducted by David Russell Hulme and in autumn term in 2009 she was invited as guest soloist to LA by the Los Angeles Welsh Society, for their Gymanfa Ganu festival. Rachel has been guest soloist for the Harlech Male voice Choir, the Aberystwyth’s Male voice choir and in October 2010 she appeared as a soloist with the three mid Wales male voice choirs, in their annual concert conducted by Robert Nichols.

Rachel is also an accomplished pianist and can accompany any songs if needed.
