Biography

I have been playing the Double Bass since the age of 9 and started Bass Guitar at the age of 12. In my teenage years I spent time playing with Perth Youth Orchestra in which I played regularly in the Edinburgh Festival and in Perth Concert hall as Principle Bass. During my time with the orchestra I was also successful in a concerto audition, giving me the opportunity to play the Capuzzi Double Bass concerto in Perth Concert Hall, the Edinburgh Festival and on multiple nights while on tour in Poland. I was appointed Principle Bass in the National Youth String Orchestra of Scotland's 2007 course. In 2009 I was awarded the Miss Elspeth Stirling Gold Medal for the highest string mark in the Perth Festival of the Arts for my performance of the Eccles Sonata in G minor.

Since starting at Birmingham Conservatoire in 2009 I have been involved in many of the Conservatoires orchestral projects including concerts in both Town Hall and Symphony Hall, where I have also played with the CBSO Youth Orchestra, including the recent Easter 2012 course for which I was section principle. During my time at the Conservatoire I have also been involved in the Conservatoire Folk ensemble, which every year tours some of England's popular folk venues, and through this I have been invited to play regularly with Jack McNeill and Charlie Heys, who have previously been nominated for BBC Radio 2's young folk musician of the year. I have just finished recording an album 'Two Fine Days' as a member of Jack and Charlie's band, which is due for release in April 2012.
