I am used to responding to the very different learning goals of students from all ages and ability levels, but at the heart of my philosophy is a dedication to setting realistic targets and developing good practice habits to achieve those goals.

Bass Tuition: If you are looking to move your bass playing to the next level with the guidance of an experienced professional, I can help develop your ability to read music as well as perform improvised lines and build your musicianship to be able to adapt to any situation. If you are a bass guitar player looking to make the transition to double bass then I can help guide you towards developing a good technique and help you reduce the risk of injury.

Piano Tuition: My early musical upbringing was on piano and I have studied it up to Grade 7 (which I completed in 2003) I am happy to work with piano students up to Grade 5 and particularly welcome adult beginners. If you play another instrument and want to develop some basic keyboard skills I am able to offer lessons catered to you or offer keyboard skills in combination with music theory tuition. I am pleased to offer both classical tuition and lessons in pop and jazz piano styles.

Theory Tuition: Theory is an area in which I have particular expertise and in addition to guidance through ABRSM Theory grades I can also offer more practical guidance in applying theoretical knowledge to compose, arrange and improvise music. As mentioned above I can also combine theory tuition with keyboard skills tuition for instrumentalists who do not play piano.

My Teaching Philosophy: I am always eager to relate music lessons to performance and encourage my students to get involved in making music as much as possible. Because of my wide professional experience performing music, I aim to develop the different skills required of professionals within my lessons. Therefore I encourage my students to develop the skills to read music, play by ear, develop their knowledge of theory, build instrumental technique and expand their rhythmic awareness. All these skills are developed in a holistic environment by a qualified music teacher who is also a professional performing musician. I try to encourage students to have an open mind so that they can explore a wide range of musical cultures and traditions and take an active role in developing their own musical knowledge.
