Notes:

I offer recorder lessons to pupils of all ages and standards, either working towards exams (ABRSM Grades 1-Diploma)or following an alternatively structured course of study. I am happy to tailor the design of the lessons to suit the individual student, but essentially my aim is to instil an appreciation of the recorder as a rewarding and inspiring instrument to play.

I also give piano lessons, and am happy to help students work towards grade exams, music festivals and competitions, encouraging in particular a historically informed attitude to whatever repertoire they approach.

The contextual learning I enjoy bringing into instrumental lessons is reflected more directly in Music theory lessons and sessions on aspects of GCSE and A-level courses. These are also tailored to suit individual needs but retaining a general sense of working beyond the demands of an exam and exploring the interconnectedness of music's practice, theory and history.
