Eiddwen Harrhy's singing career has taken her to many of the world's leading Opera houses and Concert Halls. Now her teaching is following a similar path, with Master classes and one-to-one teaching around the world, including Prague, Vilnius, Stockholm, Berlin, Helsinki, Utrecht, Vienna, Bloomington, Cologne and Singapore.

She was the guest vocal coach at Indiana University USA during their 2015 Handel Opera Season, and indeed, over the past five years. In February they will be performing Alcina, supported by the Georgina Joshi Foundation.

Eiddwen’s students have seen great success in International competitions in the UK and Europe, such as the Schubert Society Prize, Kathleen Ferrier, Miriam Licette, Belvedere Vienna, Munich Radio Prize, and these have led to professional engagements at major opera houses, festivals in Germany, Austria, Spain and the Netherlands.

Eiddwen’s notable awards include: Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts, Fellowship of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Fellowship of the Royal College of Music, and more recently, an Honorary Doctorate of Music awarded by the University of Swansea, Wales.

Eiddwen taught at RCM for over twelve years, with her studio including eminent singers and students here in the UK as well as in Europe. Notable student success continues in National and International Competitions, as well as establishing themselves as soloists on the International Opera Stage, Oratorio and Recitals in the recording studios, and with major agents worldwide.

Alongside her work at the RCM, Eiddwen has visited many Conservatoires around the world, teaching in Berlin, Dublin, Helsinki, Singapore, Stockholm, Utrecht, Vienna and Vilnius. She has also given Master classes in London, Dublin, Vilnius, Prague, Vienna and Buenos Aires.

Eiddwen was the Guest Vocal Coach at Vilnius Conservatoire for their first ever performance of any Handel Opera, (Xerxes).

Guest Vocal Coach – Indiana University, Bloomington 2010 - Present

Eiddwen has visited Indiana University for the past five years, supported by the Georgina Joshi Foundation. Working closely with the Jacobs School of Music, Eiddwen has given a number of Master classes and Workshops, as well as preparing students for productions in their Handel Opera Season; including Julius Caesar, Xerxes and Alcina.

Singing Career 1970 - 2009 Eiddwen

Eiddwen has performed with major orchestras and opera companies around the world. She has sung in more than 20 Handel operas, from Amadigi to Tamerlano, and is regarded as one of the greatest Handel specialists of her generation. Her notable roles include Pamina, Michaela, Countess, Alcina, Poppea, Iphigenie, Fiordiligi, Donna Elvira, Octavian, Composer, Katya Kabanova, Madame Butterfly and Marie (Wozzeck). Eiddwen has made many notable appearances in the BBC Proms, and many other broadcast concert performances in the UK, United States and Europe for both television and radio. Eiddwen has worked with many of the great conductors including Davis, Goodall, Solti, Haitink, Gardiner, Elder, Herreweghe, Norrington, Hickox, Jansons, Minkowski, Mackerras, Willcocks, Pritchard, Hogwood and Marriner. Directors include Peter Hall, Philip Prowse, Jonathan Miller, Richard Jones, Graham Vick, John Copley, John Cox, Nikolaus Lehnhoff, Götz Friedrich, Anthony Besch and Frank Corsar.

She has performed with the leading accompanists of her generation including Geoffrey Parsons, Graham Johnson, Pascal Roge, Roger Vignoles and Michael Pollock, and performed in Amsterdam, Athens, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Milan, Barcelona, Paris, Rome, St Petersburg, Sydney and Vienna, and Festivals in Glyndebourne, Batignano, Edinburgh, Halle, Aldeburgh, Geneva, Bruges, Lucerne and Hong Kong.

She has recorded amongst others for EMI, Erato, Deutsche Grammophon, Harmonia Mundi, Nimbus, Opera Rara and Virgin Classics.

Eiddwen's students have won major competitions both in the UK and abroad, and are already appearing at National and International Opera Houses.

Soprano Elin Manahan Thomas is already well advanced on a very successful concert, television and recording career, and performed at the opening ceremony for the 2012 London Paralympic Games. She has released five solo albums to date.
Soprano Eleanor Dennis, the winner of the Lies Askonas prize, the Miriam Lisette prize and a finalist for the Kathleen Ferrier prize, is a Harewood artist with the English National Opera, and has performed with the Classical Opera Company and Scottish Opera. She has also performed at the London Handel festival, receiving rave reviews.
Soprano Alexandra Hutton, winner of the Belvedere prize in Vienna, is a principle member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin ensemble and has won a number of awards including the Patricia Fagan Operatic Aria, the Fairleigh Vocal Scholarship and the Herman Shildberger Memorial Award.
Soprano Abigail Mitchell has won the Munich Radio Orchestra prize and the Palermo prize, and in 2013 she was invited to become an Apprentice Artist at Santa Fe Opera USA. She has also won first prize at the 2011 International Vokal Genial competition, first prize at the 2011 Concorso Vincenzo Bellini competition and second prize at the 2013 Washington International Competition for Singers.
Eiddwen is a truly special teacher. An accomplished pianist, she gives her lessons without the need for an accompanist, taking her students through their music in a one on one fashion. She is also highly proficient in a number of languages, including Italian, German, French and Czech, and will assist her students with their language learning without the need for an outside tutor.

Eiddwen is also a highly experienced examiner, having sat on the panels at the Royal College of Music for over fifteen years for both auditions and end of year examinations. She has also examined for the Royal Northern College of Music, the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She has also been an adjudicator for prize giving at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music.

Eiddwen Harrhy has since sung at many leading opera houses including Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, La Scala Milan, Glyndebourne, Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles, and appeared with many leading orchestras around the world. At home, she has sung with every major British orchestra, and with all the major opera companies. She has worked with many of the great conductors and directors, including amongst others Haintink, Georg Solti, Neville Marriner, Christopher Hogwood, Pritchard, David Willcocks, Colin Davis, John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe, Mariss Jansons, Charles Mackerras, Marc Minkowski and Roger Norrington.

She has performed with the leading accompanists of her generation, including Geoffrey Parsons, Pascal Rogé, Graham Johnson, Roger Vignoles and Michael Pollock. Her recordings include: Isabelle in Rossini's L'Assedio di Corinto and "A Hundred Years of Italian Opera, 1810-20" (Opera Rara).
