Throughout my life I have been involved in music education at all levels from pre-school to postgraduate. This has included training both classroom and instrumental teachers for work with children aged 3-18, examining at a senior level both academic and practical music, and for 25 years being Principal of the Blackheath Conservatoire. When I relinquished this demanding post seven years ago, I decided I would like to take on a few individual piano pupils. This has proved a great success and I now have some 25 students.

I enjoy the opportunity to work on a one to one basis with people of all ages and all abilities; my youngest pupil started with me aged six and my oldest is certainly over eighty. I see each student as an individual with their own particular aspirations and from the start we work together to realise them; in some cases people simply want to play for pleasure without undue pressure, in others they want to follow an examination syllabus. Some adults want to take up the piano from scratch, others want to resume studies which they abandoned many years ago. The mothers of two of my pupils have even been inspired to take up lessons themselves. From time to time students choose to give short informal concerts for parents and friends.

I teach from home and people find the environment friendly and relaxed. Parents can wait for their children in our farmhouse kitchen which looks out onto the stables and paddocks and browse a selection of magazines or just enjoy some time out, dozing peacefully in the rocking chair. Lessons take place in the adjacent large sitting room which has a separate music area with a Grotian Steinway small grand piano and music library. Outside there is plenty of parking and turning space. Queen Street is a small hamlet about 3 miles outside Paddock Wood.

I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and hold ISM Approved Private Teacher status which means that my qualifications are verified and I have a current enhanced CRB disclosure. My husband died more than 20 years ago but I have two married sons and two grandchildren.

I work within the context of the academic year with three ten week terms. Pupils normally have their lesson on the same day and at the same time each week and I publish the term dates well in advance. Lessons are normally 30 minutes long and my fees are £150 for each ten week term, payable in advance. I offer a free initial consultation so that prospective students have a chance to meet with me and to discuss their needs and then subsequently to decide whether they with to proceed with lessons.

Please don't hesitate to phone if you would like to speak with me - if I'm not available leave a message and I will call you back - I don't answer the phone whilst teaching. Alternatively you may wish to E mail me for further information.
