Biography

I graduated from the Royal Academy of Music (London) in 2005 with a First Class Honours degree. I am a principal study cellist and also studied singing at the Academy as a second study. Whist at the Academy, I gained a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music teaching diploma. The course focussed on all aspects of individual teaching; from safeguarding through to cello technique.

After completion of my degree I was awarded the Douglas and Hilda Simmonds scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music in London at Postgraduate level. Whilst there I was principal cellist for the Symphony Orchestra.

I have spent many years teaching and performing. Performances include with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Verbier Festival Orchestra. As a chamber musician and soloist, I have performed in the Purcell Room, St. Jamesís Piccadilly, St. Johnís Smith Square, Fulham Palace and the Cheltenham Festival. As part of a piano trio I worked for Live Music Now, giving performances and workshops in special needs schools, hospitals and prisons. We were also accepted by CAVATINA music to give musical workshops in schools and I was a regular performer as part of a duet for Music in Hospitals.

In 2010, I started working as an examiner for the London College of Music exam board. This involved examining in the UK as well as tours to Indonesia and the UAE.

I moved to the UAE in 2010 as a full time instrumental teacher at The British School Al Khubairat. After three years in this role I began to study for a PGCE with Sunderland University. The school placements were in The British School Al Khubairat.

In 2014, I moved to Dulwich College (Singapore) where I was a full-time class music teacher. Due to having children I moved to part time instrumental for the following two years as this offered more flexibility.

I have done a vast amount of individual tuition. I have regularly prepared students for concerts, auditions and exams, with the majority gaining high distinctions. Communication with the parents is vital to the success of individual music tuition and I always give regular feedback. In addition, I have regularly rehearsed and conducted ensembles and chamber groups.

I hold grade 8 distinctions in Ďcello, double bass, piano and singing. I have taught all of these in the past and enjoy the challenges they bring. I have also taught music theory to those wishing to take exams.

I have taught early years music and love to inspire young children to learn.
