Mr Ben Mowat

With a degree in Popular and World Musics from Leeds University, and now with a distinction for his MA in Composition (of music) for Film & TV from Bristol University, Ben Mowat has a solid grounding in musical theory and substantial experience of both teaching, performing, composing and recording. He studied violin since the age of 7 and went up to grade 8, took music theory and played in orchestras and later bands - sometimes on bass guitar! He has been recording and producing music since the age of 16 and is now an accomplished producer and composer as well as violinist. Ben also teaches a variety of secondary instruments to beginners and has a knack for helping students find their interest and enjoyment in music learning.

Ben Mowat has over 10 years of teaching experience and has worked with a great variety of students from individual older adults and returners to children as young as 4 years old. Ben has experience teaching whole class instrumental lessons in primary schools and has run a successful teaching business both within primary schools and from home teaching individual and small groups. He started off teaching violin up to a high level (which he still does) and has diversified into teaching a variety of instruments to beginners. Ben believes in the idea that we are all musicians, able to learn and benefit from music whatever your age in background. HE specialises in enthusing and inspiring children to learn and grow their musical side but also welcomes adult students of any age.

Creative, dynamic and energetic teaching, with a student-focused outlook, adapting to each individual's learning needs. He always tailors his lessons to the needs of individual students. He is experience in teaching both adults and children.

Ben is able to assess each child's abilities in terms of levels of concentration and understanding and offer teaching which is challenging, mentally engaging and enjoyable but at an appropriate pace, thus avoiding frustration.

With a positive attitude and a belief that each and every child is capable of learning and enjoying music, he puts his heart and soul into teaching and brings out the best in his students.
