Mrs Linda Town
Sandra Date: February 2016
Linda Town is an experienced and knowledgeable teacher of the cello. She has a very thorough and understanding approach which she adapts to the individual's needs and ability. Her teaching style is positive and encouraging. Our daughter started lessons with her around four months ago and is preparing to take ABRSM Grade 1. She enjoys her lessons with Mrs Town and is pleased with her progress (as are we). We are more than happy to recommend Mrs Town to anyone looking for a cello teacher.

My daughter started lessons with Linda at 15, having reached grade 5 with her previous teacher. She was nervous about starting again with a new teacher but Linda is such a lovely person they got on from the start. Linda is always warm, positive and encouraging. She combines a perception of technical detail with a strong musical sense and my daughter’s expressive playing has improved considerably. I would recommend Linda without hesitation, both for beginners and more experienced players. She is very open and direct and I am sure would bring out the best in all her students. ( This pupil was awarded the ABRSM Marguerite Swan Prize for achieving the highest grade 6 Cello exam result in 2015 )

"I had lessons at School as a teenager with Linda and had happy memories. I decided to take up the Cello again and 30 years later found out she was still providing lessons. Linda is patient, kind and has brilliant knowledge of musicality and technique. I love my lessons! If you are looking to learn from scratch or you want to take refresher lessons I would highly recommend Linda. Whether you are a child or an adult, you will not be disappointed in your investment in her lessons."

I cannot recommend Linda highly enough: she is friendly, approachable, patient, accommodating and enthusiastic. Linda has a holistic approach to teaching the cello and regularly references techniques to methods used in more advanced playing, playing in groups etc. In our three years of lessons together she has worked very hard to build a solid foundation of knowledge in finger patterns and positions which underpins my approach to learning new pieces. Lessons are always a well-balanced mix of scales, practical exercises, theory, duets and more complex pieces, and she always seeks to keep the material fresh and challenging. In addition, her advice on instrumental matters (such as the best types of strings/mute to buy) has also been invaluable, and I am continually grateful for her help and support in recommending opportunities for me to play in groups. Above all she has an honest and frank approach and a fantastic sense of humor which makes learning a real pleasure!
