Genre/Style(s): I am based in Cambridge, very close to the city centre. I usually teach from home, but am happy to arrange lessons in the surrounding area if mutually convenient.

Classical/Spanish Guitar - Experience in teaching and performing a wide range of Classical guitar music, which has included Bach Lute Suites, the strictly Serial music of Milton Babbitt, and everything in-between. Lessons can be completely casual, or geared towards technique development, repertoire building, concert preparations, examination preparation, or any other aspect of your playing you desire to improve on or indulge in.

Electric Guitar - Experience in many genres from Jazz to Metal, with a specialism in 60's-style psychedelic playing, analog effects based-playing, and post-punk/indie style.

Acoustic Guitar - Styles can include anything from modern chord-based Pop songs to Rodrigo Y Gabriela style South American music. I also have some experience with extended techniques such as butterfly-style playing and percussive playing.

Bass Guitar - Can range from simple Punk Rock Bass, to the slap bass stylings of Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

Notes:

Alongside my 14 years playing experience I also have 8 years teaching experience, which includes students of all ages from 5/6 year olds to mature adults, in both groups and as individuals with a wide range of abilities. I have forged successful student/teacher relationships with a range of pupils, from those who are just beginning on their musical journey, those who simply want to casually learn an instrument in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, all the way to those more experienced players already looking at highly advanced repertoire, who are seeking assistance in passing high-level examinations or aid in preparation for A-level or University-level recitals, or indeed beyond!

I usually prefer to teach from home or from my own music facilities, however if travelling to a student or mutually convenient location is preferred I can assess this on a case-by-case basis. If a home visit is required I may have to request modest travel fees but any location within a feasible distance is certainly a possibility. Please, do not hesitate to ask.

I do not believe in teaching using one specific style and instead prefer to adopt a different approach based on the personality and interests of the pupil, choosing a teaching method that I believe will be most beneficial to the student, one which evolves and grows as the student and material covered does.

I can teach using TAB, Standard Notation, and/or aurally/by ear, and should students wish to enter in for examinations I am able to offer advice regarding exam boards and repertoire, and happy to teach the material selected by the student. Additionally, I believe it is important to include a sense of context and background to what a student is learning as this helps develop appropriate playing/performance/style techniques for the piece or song. For this I call upon my wide knowledge of both Classical and Modern/Pop music gained through my academic studies to share music with students, and teach how to listen critically and then discuss music, possibly with the odd anecdote along the way! (Certainly, when I was a student some of the best gems of information were the unscripted ones from when a teacher went off on a tangent!)

Students of all ages and abilities are welcome, as are both casual and more serious players.

I maintain my prices below the national average as I strongly believe that finances should not be a limiting factor on musical tuition and enjoyment.
