Louisa has been teaching the violin for over 10 years. She runs a private teaching practice with her husband Nicholas Burns ( She has taught for Blackheath Conservatoire, Royal College of Music Junior Department, Surrey County Arts and St. Anthony’s Primary School in Dulwich.

Louisa offers private tuition for all ages, from beginner to advanced students. Her teaching has a 100% pass rate for ABRSM. School-age pupils are offered performance opportunities at local festivals and twice a year, a pupils’ concert is held in St. Alfege Church, Greenwich, giving the children regular chances to perform to larger audiences.

For adult learners, small concerts are held in Steinberg Studio. Having a performance goal can be hugely motivating and the concerts also offer the opportunity to meet other students who all share the enjoyment of music making.

What to expect in the lessons:
--Individual lessons normally last for 30mins, 45mins or 1 hour depending on the level and age.
--How To Practice:
Weekly instruction on exactly how to practise each piece or technical exercise in the most efficient way.
--How To Make it Easier:
A thorough explanation of the technical problems encountered and how to solve them in practice.
--How To Make Sense of the Music:
Clear instruction on the musical challenges of each piece or study.
--What To Aim For:
Clear goals or targets to aim for in the short and medium term.

Alongside her teaching, Louisa enjoys her duo concerts ( and is busy performing as a freelance violinist. She also appears regularly with City of London Sinfonia, Britten Sinfonia, BBC Concert Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
