Notes:

I am a session musician and private tutor working in London. I regularly play guitar, keyboards and perform vocals in venues around the UK, as well as at major festivals and dates around Europe. This includes The Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Main Stage at Leeds & Reading festivals, as well as on the Terry Wogan Radio Show and live on TV for the National Lottery Awards and also on Vintage TV.

I play a variety of styles proficiently including rock, pop, funk, blues, and jazz. Electric guitar is my main instrument, closely followed by classical guitar, bass guitar and ukulele. Whilst the guitar has been my main focus, I have also been improving my all round musicianship through singing and playing the piano.

I have been playing guitar for almost fourteen years and it has been my main passion ever since. I studied at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance where I received a Professional Diploma in Music Performance and a BMus in Popular Music Performance. As part of my third year I also trained as a teacher and received a RockSchool Licentiate in Music Teaching.

I began teaching whilst studying for my degree in 2010. Since then I have been involved in teaching young people between the ages of six and eighteen in a variety of contexts including one-to-one lessons, group lessons and workshop environments both privately and in Primary and Secondary schools. I would be more than happy to teach any age and level, from total beginner to advanced and anywhere in between. I teach people looking to take exams on both the Trinity and Rockschool examining boards and just for personal enjoyment.

I hold a RockSchool Licentiate in Music Teaching and have put this to good use in my private lessons, drawing on it to teach pupils of different ages and abilities.

I am a member of the MU and hold a recent CRB/DBS certificate.

The most important thing to appreciate with any new student is their individuality. Every student is different, has a different approach to learning and has different goals. Identifying this is the framework for what you will teach them and how you will teach them it. Once this is established it is crucial to find imaginative and engaging ways to improve their musicianship whilst maintaining their motivation.

I often teach group lessons, especially with younger students. I have found collective learning a particularly useful tool with younger students, as it gets them used to playing music together and building confidence performing in front of each other. Mastering an instrument at a young age is difficult enough as you are still developing your fine motor skills but to listen to those around you and play together succinctly is a real challenge. Being able to provide a way to guide budding musicians in this way is hugely gratifying.
