Biography

Emma is from Abergavenny in South Wales and began her musical career on cornet at the age of 8. She played with several County ensembles and at the age of 15, decided to move to tenor horn. In 2005, she gained a place with the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, progressing to Solo horn in 2006 where she remained until her final year with the band in 2010. At a young age, these ensembles provided great opportunities to play in many prestigious venues around the world, including the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall, London; Symphony Hall, Birmingham; Brisbane City Hall, Australia; City Hall, Toronto and Wellington, New Zealand.

In 2006 Emma commenced studies at Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating with a First Class BMus Honours degree in 2010. During her time at the Conservatoire she represented Wales as a member of the European Youth Brass Band in Norway and won the Bernard Brown Brass Ensemble Prize with the Seren Brass Quartet. Emma played for the Desford Colliery Band in 2007 touring Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia and in 2009, joined the Flowers Band on Solo Horn.
Emma continued her postgraduate studies at the Conservatoire for a further year working with Owen Farr, Katrina Marzella, Richard Marshall and Ian Porthouse achieving a Postgraduate Certificate in Music. In July 2010 she was asked to join the Birmingham Music Service as a peripatetic brass tutor visiting approximately 7 schools a week teaching brass instruments to over 200 children. Emma continued this role for almost 2 years until being offered a position with the Cory Band, moving back to South Wales where she worked for Marie Curie Cancer Care. In 2013 Emma moved to play for the Tredegar Band, but shortly after decided to join her partner, a musician in the Royal Air Force, in London.

Emma now works as a Business Manager for NHS Hillingdon CCG and plays with Zone One Brass.
