Notes:
I am a piano & keyboard teacher and music theory tutor of approximately eighteen years of experience. I have taught Piano up to and including Grade 8 standard and thoroughly enjoy helping students to learn both repertoire for graded examinations and increasing their general repertoire. I have used both ABRSM and Trinity College examining boards and will always choose the appropriate board for the pupil in consultation with them. I am also willing and able to teach electronic keyboard and will happily assist pupils in learning this for both enjoyment and graded/school examinations. I have over fifteen years of teaching experience in secondary schools (both as a classroom teacher and as a Principal Teacher) and know the full requirements of all SQA Music examinations; I am skilled in being able to assist pupils in their preparations for SQA Music performing examinations. I regularly encourage students to engage with music theory and thoroughly enjoy helping pupils to broaden and deepen their music theory knowledge. I have used both ABRSM and Trinity theory materials and have encouraged a number of students to sit their Grade 5 theory examinations, with a significant majority passing with distinction. I am prepared to travel and will teach pupils in their own homes. The first lesson is always a consultation and will not be charged.
I am also available as an accompanist for a variety of different roles. I have experience in accompanying large university choral groups, church choirs of varying sizes, school choirs, school individual performers for SQA/graded music examinations, a variety of school chamber/small music ensembles and young adult groups. I am a skilled and able sight-reader and am content with transposing at sight.
