Notes:

Hello! I'm Lew. I'm a professional guitarist, singer-songwriter, ukulele-ist, and composer. I hold both bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and have worked professionally as a musician across the UK and Europe. I have been teaching for over 10 years, in which time I have taught complete beginners, advanced players, children, grandparents, and everyone in between, creating bespoke teaching materials for each student based on their personal goals and needs. I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) and the Registry of Guitar Tutors at the London College of Music (RGT). I also have a full enhanced DBS check and child protection training.

I teach children, teenagers, retirees, working people, students, and people from all backgrounds. I teach acoustic, electric, classical guitar, and ukulele in all styles up to advanced level. I also teach music theory and composition. Please have a look at my reviews to see what my students say about me.

I understand that taking up music lessons can be daunting, so I make sure that each student feels comfortable at whatever level they are playing and that they always leave the lesson feeling encouraged and more confident in their skills. Playing music is supposed to be enjoyable, after all.

I use the music you actually like to teach you how to begin playing and/or improve your abilities. If you are a beginner, I always make sure you leave the first lesson knowing how to play a song you like!

I also teach many students who have taught themselves or have been playing for many years and now feel they need a teacher, whether that is to get to the next level in their playing or to understand their instrument and the music they're playing better.

I am also experienced in teaching children and teenagers from the age of 5 upwards. If you are a parent and would like to learn alongside your child, that is highly encouraged and there is no extra charge. If you would like me to teach more than one child at once, that is also possible!

Recently, I've been teaching over 150 kids a week in primary schools across the London Borough of Waltham Forest, but I am now back in Cardiff permanently. I received dedicated training in instrumental tuition during my Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

I offer effective and rewarding tuition towards your guitar/ukulele playing goals at a pace that suits you whether you're a beginner, playing just for fun, working towards grade exams, or whatever you need to make the next step get in touch any time.

I believe it's important to let the student lead on what and how they want to learn, while also making sure they are getting the right knowledge and playing experience. I teach most people the skills of guitar/ukulele playing through learning songs, but I teach some people from a more theoretical point of view, and I teach some people in a combination of the two approaches. For young children, I use a collection of musical games to teach them to play their instrument and begin to understand music.

Let me know what music you're into and I'll create the perfect lessons for you from there. If you're not sure what music you're into, we can find out together! I create each lesson with great care, tailoring it to your specific needs and level of ability.

If you only want to play Spice Girls and Bob Dylan songs then I'll make you the best Spice Girls/Bob Dylan act around. If you want a bit of everything, I'll teach you to be the best well-rounded musician you can be. If you want to do blues, rock, classical, folk, indie, whatever just let me know.

Also, don't feel pressured to have a lesson every single week. A number of my students come to me every other week, and some only once a month.

I teach all ages, in my music room at home, or on Skype. If you can't make it to me, I'm happy to discuss travelling to you.
