Biography

Amanda Morrison is a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. During her first post graduate year she was awarded the Alexander Peden Fyfe Scholarship which enabled her to continue her studies for a further year. She is also an accomplished pianist, winning the John Ireland Prize for voice and piano.

Amanda is an accomplished and versatile choral and ensemble singer. She has sung with The Sixteen in France and Austria, and the Monteverdi Choir. Amanda sings with Crafty Musick, whose most recent performance was in Stirling Castle. She is a founder member of the female quartet Scottish Voices, and she made her Wigmore Hall debut with the Gesualdo Consort of London. She regularly sings with the BBC Singers and toured Japan with them last summer and has just returned from Riga in Latvia.
Amanda is much in demand as a leading exponent of contemporary music and in 2000 started singing with Synergy Vocals (www.synergyvocals.com) who work exclusively on microphone. Since then she has performed Steve Reich’s ‘Tehillim’ in the USA, ‘Music for Eighteen Musicians’ throughout Europe, his new ‘digital video opera’ ‘Three Tales’ world-wide during 2002 and 2003 to great critical acclaim; and Louis Andriessen’s ‘De Staat’ with London Sinfonietta at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in October.

On the lighter side Amanda sings on the soundtrack for the films ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ and ‘Nanny McPhee’ and on Björk’s album ‘Vespertine’. In musical theatre she has been Musical Director for ‘Bye, bye, Birdie’ at the Landor Theatre in London.

As a teacher Amanda has taught at Craigholme Girls' School in Glasgow, St. Paul's Girl's School in London, Westminster Under School, E15 Stage School and ALRA. She also has many private pupils.

Future singing engagements this year include Louis Andriessen’s ‘De Staat’ with Synergy Vocals in Los Angeles in March, Schoenberg’s ‘Pierott Lunaire’ in Lincoln in April, a world premiere by Steve Reich at the Carnegie Hall in New York in October followed by a European tour and Berio’s ‘Sinfonia’ in St. Louis, USA in November.
