Miss Eleanor Dunsdon

Eleanor is a freelance harpist based in Berkshire, regularly playing for weddings and events, as well as teaching both privately and in schools around Berkshire and Oxford.

She was first introduced to the harp at the age of 9 when, inspired by a folk music workshop with musician and composer Luke Daniels, she began lessons on the Clarsach. With this she went on to perform with Luke and the Gael Music Academy at folk festivals up and down the country including Cambridge, Oxford, Towersey and Bath. Eleanor took the Clarsach to Grade 8 (with Distinction), and received an offer to study Traditional Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Wanting to broaden her styles of playing, however, Eleanor decided to take a different path, and went on to study pedal harp and Clarsach at the University of York, where she completed a BA (Hons) in Music.

Eleanor has had the privilege of studying harp with Sarah Goss, Steph West, Georgina Wells, Rachel Dent and Eira Lynn Jones. She herself has been providing lessons in both pedal and lever harp since 2012, to all ages and abilities and taking many through ABRSM exams.

In the past, Eleanor has performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, folk singer Cara Dillon and has supported The Unthanks and Bruce Molski. Eleanor’s performance experience also extends to orchestras and chamber ensembles both in York and around Berkshire, most recently joining the Windsor and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra, and the London Musical Theatre Orchestra for their ‘play-throughs’. Performance venues include the Royal Albert Hall, York Minster, Donegal Castle, the National Centre for Early Music, Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Bodleian Library, and Spencer House London.

Continuing with her passion for folk music, Eleanor has recently been recruited by Oxford-based folk band ‘Moonrakers’, who perform regularly across the South East. Visit their website here:
