Profile

Iíve been teaching Singing and Musicianship with the brilliant Kodály approach (see below) for over 20 years to all ages and levels, including children aged from 6 months upwards. I also specialise in helping students who struggle to sing in tune and also people with Learning Differences.

The brilliant Kodaly approach (and how music works!) -

This fun approach to musicianship teaches you how to perform with other musicians, how to read the music as if you were reading words aloud from a newspaper - it will teach you sight singing. It will help you understand - the beat, the rythm, the melody, the harmony...
It helps you develop confidence in your voice, your style and musicality
How does it work? - Using our normal singing voices and the fab Kodaly Approach, we break down all the musical elements into so many fun musical games - that we just canít get it wrong again - ever!
Learning by doing, we train the ear to understand the music immediately and easily, giving a strong sense of where the Rythm fits against the Pulse, a feel for rhythm in movement and how the harmony fits together with the melody. It's also an excellent preparation for instrument study.

I also perform in London with childrenís groups, choirs, jazz bands and different ensembles in the UK and abroad. I teach in nurseries, arts centres, after school clubs and run voice workshops for voice and healing, mental health, vocal confidence, among others. I run community choirs and hold local artist parties (soirees) to showcase all arts.

I teach using different styles. World, Folk, Classical, Soul, Gospel, Jazz, Pop. My aim is to help the students improve on, or learn, how to expand and strengthen their voice, increase breath control, vocal range, tuning and audiation, pitch recognition, improvisation, song interpretation and also natural voice care and singing posture. Exploring the voice through singing can also build confidence in other areas of life and develop individuality.

All of these lessons can be learnt online, one-to-one or as a group, via zoom, etc.

Approach -

My approach is: if it's not fun or joyful, we're doing it wrong.

Musicianship, Reading Music + Notation -

I teach using the Kodaly Approach. With this training itís harder to make mistakes when trying to find the right rhythm or note. It develops musical memory, brain co-ordination and pitch-matching. As we succeed at each level, the material gets a bit more challenging and our music skills grow in several directions. This approach is generally the same for everyone, no matter at what age or stage we begin it - only the song material changes to be age-appropriate. This musicianship training is also an excellent preparation for any instrument study.

Beginners 6 Week Singing Course -

This course is designed to set you up as a vocalist. We use fun games and exercises, with breath and pitch control to build up a clear vocal tone leading to confidence in your singing. It normally takes five to eight weeks to develop these skills enough that you can use them consciously, so do be patient with yourself. Learning to sing is like building up your muscles in a gym. After six weeks you will have a strong platform to sing from. Whether you want to learn to sing for yourself, to perform at an open mic or join a choir, this beginnersí course will give you the confidence and the skills you need to get up and sing.

Intermediate 6 Week Singing Course -

The Intermediate Singing Course will take you to the next level as a singer. We will work on your vocal projection, breath and pitch control, strengthening the voice and expand the vocal range, and we will also work on rhythm, pulse, phrasing, diction and song interpretation. We will introduce ear training, inner listening, harmony and performance and microphone skills.
