His teaching approach allows students to progress through Graded examinations, preparation for auditions, or simply learning an instrument for the love and enjoyment of music making.

Russell creates a relaxed, fun and creative environment for all lessons. He also has the brilliant opportunity to offer students work experience in professional environments, which can be an invaluable experience for an aspiring musician. For those earlier on in their learning, he uses games, rhymes and fun activities to help learn music theory as part of lessons. Russell encourages students to learn to improvise and explore playing through aural and listening work, enhancing musicality and deeper understanding of how to phrase and play with expression. Alongside this, Russell ensure that technique is always at the heart of student development.
