Notes:

I am an experienced bassoon, piano & theory teacher who studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and is Guest Principal Bassoonist with the Romanian Filharmonia, Sub Principal in the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London and many other orchestras. I teach in a fun, invigorating & focused manner which ensures my pupils reach their full potential.

I currently teach over 30 people ranging from 5 all the way to 60 years of age. No matter what age you are it is never too late to start learning an instrument or music theory!

Piano

I teach individual piano lessons on a Yamaha grand piano (Monmouth) or a concert digital Roland piano (Chippenham). I approach piano in a fun manner which stretches you to your fullest. I can teach from any standard and you don't need to worry if you've had no previous musical experience. I use a variety of books to help to keep the lessons and practice even more fun. During lessons I include relevant theory knowledge and aural skills training to help you develop your overall musicality.

Music Theory

I offer individual or group tuition lessons. Individual lessons are more catered to you and will allow you progress at a much faster rate. I would suggest individual lessons to 16+ year olds. The group lessons are provide an even more fun approach to learning where everybody in the group helps each other learn.

In the lessons I will not only cover theory but also its application into real life situations (musicianship) which allows you to progress on your instrument at a much faster rate. I always teach from the ground up so that my students always know why something works in the way it does. This approach helps you to remember the concepts discussed & leaves you in the know when you next come back to it. I have my grade 8 ABRSM theory and have studied musicianship and harmony to a high level at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD).

Bassoon

I am primarily a bassoonist and studied bassoon at RWCMD under Meyrick Alexander (Philharmonia), Steve Marsden (WNO), Martin Bowen (BBC NOW), David Buckland (BBC NOW) & Chris Vale (WNO). I have grade 8 distinction ABRSM bassoon and have won awards for my playing including Classic FM Young Musician of the Year & Aldeburgh Young Musicians. I am a very experienced player being Guest Principal with the Romanian Filharmonia, Sub Principal in the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London, recorded for Sony Records, and a great deal of freelance work from chamber through to symphony orchestras.

I teach bassoon to individual students in a fun and exciting manner to any standard bassoonist. All lessons are planned to suit you to ensure that you progress to your best. If you need an instrument I can talk to you about the options and I can supply reeds for you to play on. During lessons I include relevant theory knowledge and aural skills training to help you develop your overall musicality. I also run Crook and Staple, one of the largest double reed specialist music shops in the UK and so can offer a great deal of advice on every aspect of playing.
