Emily-Jane is a passionate, patient and committed teacher who always does her best to help her students fulfil their potential. She believes that everyone can sing, irrespective of experience. The key lies in finding a person's 'true' (or natural) sound - the sound that distinguishes you from anyone else in the world. Please see below to find out what her students think.

Emily-Jane is a Cardiff girl born and bred. She attended Howell's School Llandaff on an academic scholarship and left with 4 As at A Level in Music, English, History and Welsh. She began singing at the age of 13 with the highly regarded mezzo soprano Sian Meinir and esteemed soprano Patricia O'Neill. During her time at Howell's, Emily obtained her ABRSM Diploma in Singing, ABRSM Grade 8 Piano and LAMDA examinations in Verse and Prose and Acting. She was also a regular participant within the School's music and drama departments, Maendy Young Farmers' Club, the County of Cardiff High Schools' and Youth Choirs and the National Youth Choir of Wales.

Emily-Jane then moved to London to study at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama, from which she graduated with a BMus (Hons.) degree (Distinction) and a first-class Masters degree. Emily-Jane also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg and was a young artist on English National Opera's 'Opera Works' Programme.

Emily-Jane has worked internationally and for some of the UK's most prolific companies. She made her debut at the BBC Proms in 2009. Her operatic roles include Juliet in Britten's The Little Sweep (television broadcast S4C), Second Fairy/Second Woman in The Fairy Queen (Glyndebourne Festival) and Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Soho Theatre in London and at the Bahrain Conference Center in Bahrain. She is also an avid concert and recital singer: her engagements have involved performances at venues throughout the UK and abroad, including the Royal Albert Hall, Llandaff Cathedral, St. David's Cathedral, Bristol Cathedral, Bath Abbey, the Barbican Hall in London, churches throughout Siena and Florence and Birmingham Symphony Hall.

Emily-Jane has a comprehensive understanding of all types of music. Whilst living in London, she taught a large number of students from across the city between the ages of 6 and 60! Although she focuses primarily on teaching Classical and Opera, she also sings for a professional soul band and has a passion for jazz, musical theatre, pop, rock and folk music.

Lessons are conducted at Emily-Jane's home studio in Cyncoed, though in certain circumstances, she may be able to travel to you. Emily-Jane will explain to you and teach you the foundations of healthy singing and piano technique and musical interpretation. Over time, you will establish a 'tool box' full of techniques which will help improve your musical and vocal ability and significantly increase your self-confidence!

"We are very pleased with the progress that Manon has made under Emily-Jane's tutelage. While our daughter had a child's passion for singing, she needed an adult's discipline, which only an experienced and competent teacher can provide. Under Emily Jane's expert guidance, our daughter was able to pass her graded examinations and, more importantly, become a better singer. She is now able to control her voice and take on board criticism, which we never believed possible! We cannot confer enough praise on Emily-Jane for the hard work she has invested in our daughter's musical development."
Mark and Yukiko Howard, Ealing

"An excellent teacher who is ready to help with exams and curriculum work but is happy to intersperse it with music of the pupil's choice…reliable and flexible about working hours and it was a joy to watch my daughter blossom under their tutelage."
Lyndsay Lardner, Blackheath

"My lessons have opened up a whole new world to me and I have learnt so much. In our lessons, they are so helpful and clear and their constant encouragement has really built up my confidence! My lessons are the highlight of my week. Their attention to detail has really helped me to improve! You have taught me everything that I know about singing technique and as cheesy as it sounds, it really has transformed my life!! It's funny to think back to my first few lessons - I could never have predicted how much I would learn and how much singing would become such an essential part of my life, bringing me so much joy! My lessons with you have been like therapy! - however stressed or tired I might have been before our lessons, I always left feeling inspired and excited to have learnt something new. Thank you for introducing me to some fantastic music and for helping me through my Grade 8 - it was so much fun working through all the repertoire and getting into all the finer details."
Frances Thomson, Ealing

"I loved having Emily-Jane as my singing teacher - she gave me so much confidence for my exam that I am now on Grade 4!!! She is a great teacher and I am lucky to have been taught by her."
Poppy Scott, London

"I was suffering terribly from poor self-confidence and with an audition coming up, I treated myself to singing lessons. Best decision ever. Sailed through and actually enjoyed it!"
