I am based in Davenport, Stockport and offer tuition in piano, singing and violin. I am an experienced, enthusiastic and friendly music teacher and teach pupils from ages 6 to 90(!), from beginner to diploma level. A free consultation lesson is given prior to commencing regular tuition.

The main emphasis of my teaching is enjoyment and there is no pressure to take exams unless you want to. I do however, regularly enter pupils for ABRSM examinations and have 100% pass rate with in excess of 80% achieving merit or distinction.

As a professional pianist, as well as teacher, I accompany a wide range of soloists and groups, including choirs and solo performers for examination entries. I believe that being an active pianist enables me to teach more effectively.

Singing is an important aspect of any musician’s development. My experience both as a choral singer and soloist enables me to support students in their general musical development, as well as teaching vocal technique on an individual basis.

I have played the violin in orchestras since I was a child and am an experienced teacher of it. Violin is a sociable instrument and great fun to play!

My approach to teaching young people is child-centred, so that lessons are tailored to different learning styles, enabling pupils of all ages and abilities to make progress and enjoy their musical learning. I believe that music lessons should be fun, but that making progress is important, whether or not examinations are involved. Weekly lessons need to motivate pupils to practice regularly, so must be enjoyable. I select repertoire appropriate to the age and standard of the pupil, embracing a range of different styles including classical, jazz and popular music. I include elements of music theory at all levels because it is an important aspect of understanding music.

I also have a Certificate in Dalcroze - “Musicianship through Movement”, a technique which I bring into my lessons, as it teaches children how to feel music through movement before they transfer it to an instrument. It is particularly helpful for younger children and kinesthetic learners. It can also be an important tool to help pupils with special educational needs.
