Master of Music (Distinction) - Royal Northern College of Music, UK

Bachelor of Music (Honours) - Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, the University of Melbourne, Australia
Instruments: Violin
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

Hello! My name is Sophie and I am a violinist based in Manchester. Although I am a performing musician by trade, (playing with orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic and the Hallé), I love to teach the violin, especially to young beginners.

Although I mostly perform with orchestras in the UK now, when I was living in Australia I had as many as 30 students! During this time, I taught individual lessons, beginner and advanced group classes, and also directed and tutored two string ensembles.

I now teach out of a lovely light-filled studio in Didsbury Village. I love working with beginners, especially young children, but have also taught adult beginners and more advanced students (through to Grade 8 ABRSM).

I can be very flexible with lesson times and I'm sure that we can come to some sort of arrangement.

Playing the violin is challenging, but can also be so much fun. I hope to pass on my love of music and teaching to the people that I work with.

I hope you get in touch with me for some lessons - I'm sure that we can do some great work together! Feel free to contact me via this site, or give me a call on 07511 504 000

Some more about me -

I moved to the United Kingdom from Melbourne, Australia in 2012 to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. Since graduating from my Masters with Distinction, I now play regularly with orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, the Hallé, Opera North, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

After graduating from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music with Honours in 2010, I spent two years playing full time with the Zellwood String Quartet. During this period, the quartet carried out a national tour of Australia, and presented recitals in the United States, Canada, and China, where we performed at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. In the same year, we also participated in a month long residency at the Banff Centre in Alberta, and performed on ABC television as part of the Art Nation programme.

During my studies at the RNCM I also took part in a number of high profile programmes for young artists, participating in the Professional Experience Scheme of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and performing at the Aldeburgh Festival with the Britten-Pears Young Artist Program.

Last year, I performed as part of the BBC Philharmonic on two international tours, and played at festivals including Mendelssohn on Mull in Scotland, and the Cantiere Internazionale d’arte Festival in Montepulciano, Italy.
