Notes:

I am an experienced flautist based in Yorkshire with strong interests and focus on musical performance and interpretation. Although I enjoy playing repertoire from all eras, my special interest is in 20th Century works and New Music.

I believe it is important to inspire learners of music, both performers and listeners, and my teaching approach reflects this belief. I am able to adapt my lessons to the student, and help them gain the information and education that is right for them. I believe exams are an important learning process for students, and I am prepared to guide students to achieve their best potential in ABRSM, Trinity, GCSE, and A Level.

My teaching style is to understand why a musician is learning the flute, and adapt my teaching style to this. For example, if an adult would like to play in ensembles, there will be more of a focus on group playing and listening. Alternatively, if a parent would like their child to have a creative hobby, it is important to focus on technique and positive progress.

Awards: BFS Second Prize Winner (2019); University of Hull Andrew Brown Award for Distinction in Performance (2018), Lydia Purcell Music Award (2009)
