James is an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and personable teacher. I have recently returned to playing and with his guidance and exploration of technique and musicality we are making good progress towards my musical goals in a very supportive environment. James integrates relevant music history and his knowledge of the local music scene to make lessons productive, interesting and a real pleasure to attend.
ABRSM Exam Accompaniment Testimonial (Bianca, violin teacher based in Manchester) Date: January 2015
James is an excellent accompanist. He has a sympathetic playing style, ensuring that my students felt very comfortable, and his polite manner and thorough teaching method in both the performance pieces and the aural tests gave me every confidence in the rehearsal process. He is extremely reliable and very easy to work with, and the consistently excellent exam results achieved are testament to his abilities.

James is a great teacher. I returned to violin lessons last year after a rather long break and he has really helped me improve my technique and playing in general. He is always encouraging and supportive and is great at identifying solutions to any difficulties I'm having and suggesting ways to practice which have been extremely useful to me. I am really enjoying lessons and have benefited a lot from James' knowledge and guidance. I would highly recommend him as a teacher.
Beth (aged 16) Date: February 2016
James is a great violin teacher. He is patient, approachable and very helpful. He has helped me greatly with practicing for my ABRSM Grade 8 exam, as well as with my GCSE music recordings. I feel that my skills have developed significantly whilst having James as my teacher and I would definitely recommend him.

James has been teaching my son and daughter, both teenagers, for two years. He replaced a much loved former teacher who had moved away, and I was impressed at how quickly he won them over. He is fantastically patient, encouraging and totally makes them believe in themselves. His own professionalism and passion for the violin is infectious. As a parent, I was very impressed with his high degree of organisation. The teenagers were impressed James’s knowledge, ability to help them visibly improve and the fact he is “picky, but in a good way”. The fact that he plays the piano and can accompany them in exams is a real plus and he is very accurate about what standard they are at. My daughter has just passed her Grade 5 with a merit and we couldn’t recommend James more highly.

James is a warm, friendly and intuitive music teacher. I hadn’t taken violin lessons since high school but I’m enjoying it now more than ever. My technique is improving all the time and lessons are always relaxed, informal and really enjoyable. Highly recommended

My family has been on a journey to find the right extra violin lesson for my oldest daughter, Joanah. We knew from an early age that Joanah needed help as I hardly had enough time to teach her. But our path to finding the right help was one of trial and error. We then decided to let her attend James’ music lesson for a month and her improvement was instant. My daughter Joanah, who was not reaching her full potential, bloomed into a bright, beautiful and confident girl. Joanah has achieved so much over a few months to the extent that she missed distinction by 2 marks in her ABRSM examination. To any parent looking for value, effective tuition and high levels of achievement then James’ music school is the place for your child.

My Daughter has been having violin lessons with James for the past 2 years. She started as a complete beginner aged 8 and under James' guidance has achieved a Distinction in Grade 2 ABRSM violin exam. She is currently preparing for Grade 3 Violin exam. Clearly amazing progress for 2 years of learning! James is able to explain technical musical terms in a simple manner that my daughter can easily grasp. He is very patient with student children. As a teacher, James is very professional and always punctual. My daughter always looks to her Violin lessons.

I met James when he came to stand in for our conductor at The Lowry String Group (Salford based adult string group). I was so impressed, that he was my first choice of teacher when I needed to change. He’s extremely professional, friendly, knowledgeable and thoughtful. As a result I believe my playing is improving immensely. I really look forward to my lessons and feel very fortunate to be taught by him.

My 9 year old daughter, Emily, started violin lessons with James from January this year, to replace her very first violin teacher for two years. Over the last 7 months, Emily has made impressive progress. Not only she has progressed from just starting learning grade 4 pieces to being ready to tackle grade 6 pieces, her quality of playing has improved amazingly. James is an enthusiastic violin teacher. He is very organised, patient, and always punctual for lessons. James is an experienced teacher, he chooses teaching materials according to Emily’s needs and helps her to establish a good practice routine. Emily is a quick learner, so James always makes sure she gets challenged but without pressure. Last but not least, James is a very encouraging teacher. Emily is playing more and more confidently, and always leaves her lessons with a smile!
