The international Suzuki method of piano teaching was conceived by the Japanese violinist Dr Shinichi Suzuki around 1940.
Originally developed to teach pre-school children 3 to 4 years old to play the piano, its fundamental principle is applicable to all ages. Music like language is experienced through hearing and listening. This natural order is followed by teaching the pupil to play the piano through listening and memory in the same way that he/she learnt to speak. They learn to read the music separately. The 2 skills merge in their own time as happens in their own mother language.

The parent is involved in the learning and sits in at each lesson.

I am a member of the British Suzuki Institute. More information about this method can be obtained at their website.
