Notes:

I studied both the piano and ‘cello at the Royal Academy of Music and then obtained my Post-Graduate music teaching qualification at Durham University. My career began in the maintained sector, teaching music and leading extra-curricular musical activities to 11 - 16 year olds at Chellaston School, Derbyshire. This was followed by an exciting role in the Middle East, leading the junior music department of an English school before returning to the UK to direct the music department of an 8 - 16 independent school in Buckinghamshire.

The next 15 years were spent, alongside bringing up 4 children, teaching piano and ‘cello, both privately and as member of the peripatetic music team at Stonyhurst College, Lancashire. My husband was appointed Headmaster of Westminster Cathedral Choir School in 1995, resulting in a family move to London. My key supportive role there combined pastoral care of pupils and teaching of piano and music theory.

From 2003 until 2014, I have had a key role in music teaching at the Loughborough Endowed Schools (incorporating Loughborough Grammar and High Schools, as well the junior school, Fairfield). There, I was part of the Senior Leadership Team, teaching music in the classroom in addition to running a choir, the Senior Aural group and teaching the piano. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the team that established the flourishing, newly-built music school that is there today.

My music making has not all been work-related; I have also sung, at different times, with the London Symphony Chorus and St Endellion Festival Chorus.

My husband’s recent retirement in 2014 has seen the family relocate to Ripon where I am looking forward to continuing my teaching of the piano, together with aural and theory training. Further plans include the teaching of fun, pre-school music to small groups and this may be of particular interest to parents of children who will go on to learn a musical instrument. Courses will introduce sound and simple music literacy before the children take on the physical challenges of learning to play an instrument.
