Instruments: Violin/Viola
Genre/Style(s): All
Ability Levels: Intermediate to Advanced

I am a freelance violinist, teacher and coach, and member of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

Aged thirteen I won a full scholarship to Wells Cathedral School, and continued my studies with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. There, I was a founding member of the Guildhall String Ensemble (later Guildhall Strings), and as itís Leader/Director gave concerts in prestigious venues in Europe, North and South America and Asia. The GSE recorded numerous albums (with RCA and Hyperion) of Music ranging from the complete sets of Corelli and Handel Concerti Grossi to the string works of Stravinsky. The Ensemble also commissioned many new compositions from British composers.

Alongside my work with the GSE, I worked with the English Chamber Orchestra for many years, and appeared as a guest Leader with many other London based and provincial orchestras.

I am an experienced teacher, having taught at St Pauls School (Hammersmith) from 1997-2002 and the Junior Royal Academy of Music from 2007-2010. Since 2015 I have taught the violin at Wells Cathedral School, one of the four National Specialist Music Schools.

I believe that the most important part of teaching is forming an understanding of each studentís strengths and weaknesses, and finding ways to enable them to develop the awareness and practical methods to fulfil their musical and instrumental potential.

The challenge of providing students with the knowledge of how to successfully solve technical and music problems is my reason for teaching, and I look for a similar commitment and passion for the violin from everybody I teach.
