began classical piano lessons at the age of seven and progressed quickly through the early ABRSM Grades. At the age of eleven, having passed the 11 plus for Moseley Grammar School in Birmingham, my music career began in earnest and for a while I was taught by the acclaimed concert pianist Stanley Adams.
By the age of fourteen I was graded as advanced, I then took up tuition on the cello and later the trumpet. Throughout my piano playing career I have played acoustic pianos both upright and grands and in the 1970s I obtained distinctions in Grades 7 and 8.

In the 1980s I spent time in Florida with the Baldwin Piano Company, which supplies pianos and organs worldwide. At the time, Baldwin supplied the grand piano to the London Palladium and some years ago, with Baldwin’s help, we were able to bring the Palladium piano to the Three Spires Festival for a classical concert in Truro Cathedral. Following this, I became the Devon and Cornwall dealer and demonstrator for Baldwin pianos and also for German Wersi organs.
For the last 15 years I have concentrated my teaching around the ABRSM’s Graded Practical Courses, together with its theory. This has resulted in more than 150 of my students passing various grades. I have also taught many other students who have wanted to play more relaxed and easy listening piano styles. Most of these students have continued to play for their own enjoyment; some have gone on to use their skills professionally.
Teaching is tailored to suit your style of learning and I am available for private lessons during the day and evenings, not weekends. Lessons are held in a dedicated piano studio at Pentire in Newquay and there is ample free car parking.
