Hello! My name is Michael. I offer violin, music theory & composition lessons in the Brighton & Hove area. I tailor my tuition to my students’ needs and personalities, and my friendly teaching approach balances discipline with positive affirmation.

I am a Grade VIII Distinction violinist, & past recipient of the Amina Lucchesi Memorial Prize. I have a BA Honours Degree from Oxford University (Music - 2011), and an MA from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (2013 - Composition).

My students have all received Merit or Distinction in their graded exams. As a violinist I have played in diverse UK-based orchestras, ensembles & chamber groups. I have performed for The Queen and worked with composer Howard Goodall.

As composer I have written for Sony/EMI (2018) and The Commonwealth Games (2014), and for diverse groups including The BBC Singers, The Maxwell String Quartet & Edinburgh International Harp Festival. My recent choral-symphonic “Stabat Mater” received praise from Sir James MacMillan.

I am also signed to Brighton-based record label FatCat Records as solo artist Knightstown. My songs have received airplay on BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music, and been featured in The Independent, Music Week & Clash Magazine.

As a session musician I have toured extensively with Mercury Prize-nominee C Duncan, including Pitchfork Festival (Paris) plus a UK support tour with Elbow (2017), performing in venues including Hammersmith Apollo and O2 Arenas.

I like to bring my diverse musical experiences into my teaching, and desire to bring out the best in my students whatever musical journey they wish to take.
