My name is Gus and I'm a London-based teacher and freelance singer (bass-baritone). I began my career as a Chorister at St Paul's Cathedral - a slightly wobbly start, as my voice broke overnight at the age of 12! However, my new bass voice seemed to work quite well, and some years later I became a Choral Scholar and Lay Clerk at St John's College, Cambridge. At St John's, I was fortunate enough to be able to travel the globe on concert tours, record ten CDs and sing in a number of broadcasts for the BBC, on top of all my academic work!

Since graduating, I have been working as a tutor in London, whilst singing with a number of choirs and vocal ensembles. Perhaps most excitingly, I am one of the founding members of Shards, a new group specialising in classical/electronic-crossover music. With Shards I have performed at the Barbican Hall, and have recorded new albums with musicians including Nils Frahm, a German classical/techno artist, and Michael Price, the man behind the music to the BBC's 'Sherlock'. In addition to my singing and teaching, I work part-time for Future Talent, a charity offering financial awards to exceptionally talented young musicians from low-income backgrounds.

In December last year, I was awarded scholarships to both the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and I will be taking up a place on a postgraduate course in the autumn on 2018.

I enjoy teaching musicians of any age and standard, and welcome students with a diverse range of goals and aims. Whether you're starting at the beginning of your musical journey, are seasoned players in need of advance technical tuition, or just want to have a jam, I will listen to you and help you reach your full potential.

You may wish to embark on, or continue, a path through the ABRSM/Trinity exams. My pupils have a high success rate, with most of my students reaching either Merits or Distinctions in their music exams. However, I also encourage students who wish to sidestep the exam system, and can tailor the classes to meet your requirements and ambitions.
