My name is Olly Lewis. I am a 26 year old Composer, Singer/Songwriter and Teacher. I have an unconditional love for music and I utilise this in order to communicate emotionally with the world.
I have a First Class Honours in BA Music and an MMus in Composition, both of which were from the University of Southampton.
I have released several albums, I have written an original musical, The Craft of the Cooper, of which was taken to Edinburgh Festival 2015 and I am currently in the process of writing the soundtrack to an Indie video game, Helios.
I am in an Alternative Folk Trio called Tenderlore. My singing and songwriting has led to awards (Live and Unsigned 2010), festival appearances (e.g. Glastonbury) and various support slots including the likes of Laura Marling, Dry The River, The Move, Bloc Party, The Noisettes, Zane Lowe, etc.
Outside of peripatetic teaching, I work as a Community Music Practitioner on behalf of SoCo Music Project. I teach choirs, music technology and deliver singing and songwriting workshops to particularly vulnerable adults and children. I also work on several other freelance projects and in September 2019, I will begin teaching Music Performance, Musical Theatre and Music Technology at Itchen Sixth Form College.
I received 4 years of vocal tuition from Nichola Christie, a former West End musical theatre performer and university specialist.
I do 1-to-1 and group-based vocal and instrumental tuition.
I believe being an active musician really compliments the teaching process. Having varied teaching experience and a vast knowledge of different musical genres, I am both versatile and flexible in my teaching approach, tutoring musicians of any age, of any ability and from any background.
I am also DBS checked.
My interest in teaching comes from my desire to continue learning about music, to continue discovering new music and new ways to understand and embrace it. Through my teaching, I will introduce students to new techniques, styles and repertoire whilst expanding on what they already know and love. We will focus on technique, but in a way that aims to equip students with all they need to know beyond my lessons.
I am extremely passionate about exploring the full potential of the human voice.
Please take a look at the 'Multimedia' tab above for examples of my work.
I am happy to teach from home and to travel to you however travel expenses will need to be covered.
Please feel free to contact me and find out more. I look forward to hearing from you.
