Miss Flora Curzon

London based violinist Flora Curzon is best known for her musical versatility. Whilst studying classical violin at the Royal Academy of Music with Maureen Smith, Flora continues to study classical improvisation with David Dolan, and Baroque violin with historical performance expert, Libby Wallfisch. On top of her formal studies, many global voyages have expanded her musical horizons, and with the help of the inspirational Tcha Limberger and Piotr Jordan her love of traditional, gypsy and improvised music from around the world has flourished.

Her unique combination musical passions and skills have sparked an exciting career: her fast growing and eclectic resumé of worldwide performances and recordings includes work with Mercury Prize nominee Sam Lee, tabla player and Mercury Prize winner, Talvin Singh, award winning singer, Katy Carr, theatre company Deafinitely Theatre, eastern European gypsy/folk band Dunajska Kapelye, and composers Danyal Dhondy and Andrew T Mackay. Other recent successes include taking part in a public masterclasses with Maxim Vengerov and Ruth Watermann, playing with the Royal Academy of Music Sainsbury Soloists and collaborating with the London Sinfonietta. Her own projects include a classical violin duo - Gaia Duo, a baroque trio - The Wren Consortium, and an Eastern European folk music violin and cello duo (with Francesca of the Sam Lee band) - Brasov String Band, all of which perform regularly in the UK, and details for which can be found on this site. Flora has performed all over the world at many prestigious venues and festivals including The Royal Festival Hall, Glastonbury festival, Shakespeare’s Globe and WOMEX festival.

As well as the art of performance, Flora is a great believer in the healing power of music. Ongoing explorations in the worlds of improvised music and dance continually feed her passion to discover more about the relationship between music people, the mind, the body, and the community. Flora teaches improvisation in conjunction with classical violin playing and/or folk fiddle, which she believes not only develops the student's musicianship, but also helps unlock their own musical voice and enhance their wellbeing. Flora regularly assists workshops and classes with the English Touring Opera and Sprouts, and is soon to start assisting Ewan King in his Old Time Nursery music group at Heath Street Baptist Church.

She has 2 Diplomas in violin playing, the DipABRSM and LRSM, and has a BA in Religion, Philosophy and Ethics from King's College London.
