Born in Scotland in 1996, Lucy began studying the cello at the age of 5. At age 6, she was accepted into the first class of Pre-Juniors at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, promoted to the youngest member of the Junior department at the age of 9. Following a family move to Aberdeenshire in 2006, Lucy received scholarships to study at the North East of Scotland Music School and the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland, finishing her secondary school education at the Music School of Douglas Academy in Glasgow.
Following a very successful round of undergraduate auditions, Lucy accepted a place to study at the Royal Northern College of Music with Nick Trygstad, graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in 2018. She chose to complete her Masters of Music in Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Tim Gill and Joe Crouch, where she developed her interest in Historical Performance. She is currently a Junior Fellow at the GSMD.
Tutoring Experience:
Lucy began teaching the cello over 10 years ago. Her pupils have ranged from total beginner to very advanced, with an age range of 4 to 84! She has experience teaching in multiple different styles, including the Suzuki method, and has worked extensively with students with SEN. Lucy incorporates both the ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall exam methods into her teaching.
Tutoring Approach:
Lucy believes that above all else, music is to be loved and enjoyed, and approaches her teaching in a way that allows her students to enjoy what they are doing, whilst still maintaining a high level of concentration and discipline. She incorporates a variety of styles and methods into her teaching, always striving to tailor her teaching to the individual needs of her students. By working with both ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall syllabi, Lucy allows her students to get the most from their progress.
