Concert Biography:

As a freelance concert pianist, classroom teacher and academic, Nikki Booth lives a very varied life. Born in Leicester, Nikki began his musical journey at St. Thomasí Church Choir, however it wasnít until the age of fourteen when he began receiving piano lessons from his then classroom music teacher. After three years of study, Nikki moved on to study with internationally renowned concert pianist, Marlene Fleet, where he quickly excelled at grade 8 and ABRSM piano performance diplomas.

In 2002, he went on to study music and Spanish at Keele University, Staffordshire, where, under the guidance of concert pianist Michael Bell at Keele and Marlene Fleet in Leicester, he gave numerous solo recitals and frequently provided accompaniments to fellow students for the degree-level performance examinations.

After graduating in 2005, Nikki was one of few British students to win a place at the Birmingham Conservatoire to study under the then Head of Keyboard, Professor Malcolm Wilson, and the then Head of Accompaniment, John Humphreys. It was during this time that he entered several local and national recital and concerto competitions and frequently won first prize, most notably for his performances of; Scarlatti, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Gershwin. Subsequently, he was lucky enough to go on as a student of Andrew West at the Royal Academy of Music, London and further became in demand as a recitalist, concert soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. Since then, Nikki has provided accompaniments for talented local soloists for the BBC Young Musician of the Year competitions, and has given numerous solo recitals, ensemble performances and concerto performances throughout the UK and in Austria, Italy, Prague and Spain.

In addition to his busy life as a pianist, Nikki has also taken up varying posts in education such as; external proof-reader for Co-ordination Group Publications (CGP), being appointed as a GCSE and A Level examiner for performing modules and has held Head of Music posts at in Birmingham and in Staffordshire. Despite his extensive musical training, he was then appointed as Head of Modern Foreign Languages and Music in September 2014 where he continues to teach. Although much of his time is now dedicated to classroom teaching, Nikki still gives numerous solo recitals, concerto performances and piano and organ duo-ensemble performances, with his friend, Ian Orr, throughout the midlands.

Having passed a Masters in Teaching and learning with Distinction in 2015, Nikki is now undergoing his Doctoral studies (PhD) with Birmingham City University specialising in assessment in music education.
