Instruments: PIANO
Genre/Style(s): Classical, Pop, Musical Theatre
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

Notes:

As a pianist I am influenced by many sources from the great classic composers such as Ravel, Brahms and Prokofiev to the likes of Nina Simone, Stereophonics and Van Morrison right through to musical theatre, film scores and festive pieces of music.

I believe it is important to find the right route to engage the student in their instrument for example my youngest students I am currently teaching Christmas tunes and they love it (different wording?).

I like to try out duets with students early and if they are comfortable with this I introduce these as I believe the ability to play with others is hugely beneficial in later life, both in the potential professional capacity and in social environments.

As a composer I work both pencil to manuscript and through music softwares.
I have advanced software skills that can easily be transferred to whatever software’s are available.
The particular softwares I use for my work are Logic and Sibelius. I use Sibelius for piano teaching purposes creating simplified versions of pieces where necessary.

As a pianist and composer I work in dance and theatre, and have been the rehearsal pianist for both ballet class and theatre rehearsals.

Having a fundamental understanding of music theory and a classical training in the piano these have resulted in work in unexpected areas, for example with electronic music producers Steve Smart & Westfunk on chart pop remixes.

Through my experience I have knowledge of the various ways musical training can be used within the industry. It is important to me to impart this information to young people wherever possible. It was infact through the support of one of my music teachers that I pursued a career in music and I shall always be grateful for her belief in me so early on.

Having been a member of the Woodcraft folk (a co-operative) from a very young age I have been in an environment with people of all ages from all backgrounds and believe this has given me the skills and ability to understand people, in particular children’s behaviour.
I have successfully taught people from a very broad age range from children of 4 through to adults in their late 60’s.

I am very proud to say I have always maintained great relationships with all my pupils and receive very positive feedback.
