Miss Hanna Marchand

Biography

Hanna Marchand is a Swiss and German Saxophonist, Composer and Teacher. She started playing Saxophone at the age of 10 and successfully completed her MA in Performance (Tenor Saxophone) at the University of Arts in Switzerland in Bern in 2016.
In 2017 she moved from Lucerne to London, where she lives and plays music now.
Hanna always has been fascinated by the rhythmic aspects of music, dreaming to be playing alongside Prince and thus, the first saxophonists she fell in love with were Maceo Parker and Candy Dulfer.
Furthermore, she discovered her love for Funk, Soul, RnB, Jazz, Reggae, Pop, Fusion and Ska which led her to the decision to pursue her musical journey.
During her studies at the University of Arts she’s been coached by the saxophonists Andy Schaerer, John Voirol and Lutz Häfner and by Django Bates (p), Dejan Terzic (dr), Frank Sikora (theory) and Klaus König (theory).
Wanting to incorporate all of her inspirations into her own project, she created a trio alongside Florian Hoesl (dr) and Thomas Tavano (bass).
‘Joko Likes It Hard’ includes guitar effects to the saxophone playing and welcomes an open approach to groove, rhythmical layers and modulations.
In London she is working as a freelance musician and is to be found as a resident Saxophonist and DJ at the Restaurant Zela, a part of the House Band on several Fridays at Troy Bar and wherever there is a wicked jam going on!
