Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

I was born in New York and my first guitar was a Gibson ES335 which I played in Jazz Clubs throughout New York City. I fell in love with the lute after hearing Jan Ackerman playing one in the progressive rock band Focus.

I have been playing as a soloist and high profile continuo player internationally since 1995 and have been teaching for twelve years in England and Germany. for my website with full professional biography.

One-to-one lessons for players of any level, age and experience.

Intermediate/Advanced: One-to-one lessons in historical performance practice and technique, concentrating on the style of music that you wish to play from 15th- to 18th-centuries.

Beginners: I am happy to teach a complete beginner, as well as anyone wanting to cross-over from the Classical Guitar.

Classical Guitarists: I also teach baroque style to classical guitarists, and have coached guitarists in masterclass with Sharon Isbin.

Bass Continuo is the art of playing an accompaniment from a bass line with harmonic figures, from the music of Monteverdi to Handel. I will teach you how to realise a figured bass and improvise in historical style.

I teach a 75 minute lesson, which at first glance may seem long, but I have come to realise that it is the nature of the lute and early guitars to require time to be spent not only on playing your instrument, but on stringing and maintaining it, on learning to read lute tablature and studying historical practices.

I have played solo recitals for many years and can teach presentation skills and help with difficulties caused by nerves and performance anxiety from the point of view of a professional player.
