I began my musical journey at age 9 as a classical pianist. I reached grade 5 but then decided that I wanted to explore the realms of improvisation and jazz, so I decided to teach myself.

Being an autodidact, I have had to understand the roots of jazz rhythm and harmony, learning from a variety of sources and role models. For the past three years, I have had the privilege of studying under the wing of master jazz pianist John Turville, one of the leading current jazz pianists in the UK.

As a result of these experiences, I have developed a deep understanding of jazz harmony which - since I have had to teach it to myself - I find easy and enjoyable to teach to students seeing as my explanations are flexible and accommodating.

At school, I was always teaching my musical friends different concepts; I always found the teaching process deeply rewarding in and of itself. At the school I attended, I was able to attain the Alan Morgan Award which was a music scholarship dedicated to those of exceptional musical talent, as well as placing first in a piano competition.

My method of teaching is very rooted in the interactive: I enjoy asking my students questions and encouraging them to 'solve' the different musical concepts, which I believe to be essential, since you can only truly understand something when you find your own way of explaining it. I strongly believe in the idea that a true teacher doesn't spoon-feed their student the fish, but instead teaches them the art of fishing, thereby transforming them into proficient independent musicians who have strong foundations.

I am currently a gigging jazz pianist, with experience in duo, trio and quartet formations.
