Completed Educare child protection training course. (more)
Keeping Children Safe in Music is the latest in the EduCare's series of distance learning courses on child protection. The training programme uses short films to show a variety of good and bad practice examples, which will be available to watch online. It will help anyone teaching music to children gain a better understanding of their child protection responsibilities, and avoid situations that could lead to accusations of misconduct.

Instruments: Piano
Genre/Style(s): Classical
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

I am an actively performing musician with over 30+ years of playing experience so far! I've played aboard the P&O cruise ship Aurora, held a 3 month residency in the Maldives, played at festivals, in jazz bands, big bands, disco bands, function bands, accompanied classical, jazz and pop singers and choirs. I am available as accompanist for music students taking their ABRSM graded exams in other instruments. I have a very wide and varied playing experience.

How it works is that I travel to students address and tutor them in their own home. If you live in the local area or the surrounding towns to Caterham then there is no travel charge. I will teach outside my area for an additional proportionate travel charge. I also teach online using the Zoom platform. I will tutor the student whatever their individual learning goals may be, whether that's working through the ABRSM classical/jazz grades or teaching general piano ability without exams. I like to teach the theory of music along with the practical exams to give the student a solid grounding in all aspects of music. I have completed a recent DBS check and also hold a NSPCC child protection care certificate.

I concentrate on building strong music fundamentals in each student which will serve them well throughout their musical career. Being a actively performing musician, I understand what it is like to perform in front of other people. I can offer my own advice and experience that I have learnt along the way. Learning the piano should be a fun and enjoyable experience. It should also have a challenge aspect to it so that it imparts a sense of accomplishment, confidence and self-esteem in the student. I try to impart this in the lessons so that you feel equally stimulated by doing something enjoyable that you like, being kept encouraged and motivated and to experience the joy of achievement in your growing skill and ability!
