Simon Harper graduated from the University of York in July 2013 with a BA in Music (First Class Honours). Whilst in York, Simon established himself as an experienced and talented performer. Simon was a Deputy Songman with the Choir of York Minster, sang in the Yorkshire Bach Choir and University Chamber Choir (both with which he frequently appeared as a soloist) and university vocal ensemble The 24 with which Simon toured China and Serbia. As a member of vocal consort Les Canards Chantants, Simon sang on BBC 1's Countryfile in April 2013.

Recent solo engagements include Monteverdi's Vespers (with the Yorkshire Bach Choir and Baroque Soloists), Mendelssohn's Elijah, Handel's Messiah, and the role of the Evangelist in the Schutz St. John Passion. Simon studied singing in York with John Powell, Yvonne Seymour and Richard Jackon, and received vocal coaching from Robert Hollingworth and members of the renowned vocal consort I Fagiolini.

An experienced conductor and choral director, Simon founded and directed the Chamber Choir Incantiamo at the University of York, and conducted the choir, with Robert Hollingworth, in the UK event for the first ever European Day of Early Music at the National Centre for Early Music in York, broadcast live on the internet. Simon also conducted the University of York Concert Orchestra (notable performances of Dvorak's Symphony No. 8 and Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs) and was musical director for the University Opera Society production of Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld in June 2013.

As a violinist, Simon was a member of the Southampton Youth Orchestra, touring across Europe to Poland, Austria, Italy, Belgium and Spain. As leader of the orchestra, Simon led notable performances of Holst's The Planets in St. Michael's Church Ghent, Vaughan Williams' Tallis Fantasia in Bruges Cathedral and Tchaikovsky's Pathetique Symphony in Barcelona Cathedral. In July 2010, Simon was the soloist in performances of Kabalevsky's Violin Concerto.

Simon currently sings as a Tenor Lay Clerk in Hereford Cathedral Choir, and works as a freelance performing and teaching musician. Simon has recently broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and 4 with the Cathedral Choir and toured the USA in October. Simon also performs as a soloist with choral societies and as a recitalist.
