Keeping Children Safe in Music is the latest in the EduCare's series of distance learning courses on child protection. The training programme uses short films to show a variety of good and bad practice examples, which will be available to watch online. It will help anyone teaching music to children gain a better understanding of their child protection responsibilities, and avoid situations that could lead to accusations of misconduct.

I am currently teaching via Zoom due to the pandemic

About Me:
I completed the BMus Music course at Goldsmiths with a first in a piano performance. My main focus was classical music, then at university I became more interested in contemporary music and minimalism. I played in multi-keyboard groups (video on my multimedia page) and was awarded the opportunity to play a double piano concerto where we performed the London premiere of Graham Fitkin's 'Circuit'. Since graduating, I have been enjoying teaching as well as playing bass guitar and singing backing vocals in a feminist punk band (video on my multimedia page). We are signed to two labels, one in the UK and one in North America. Through the band, I also take part in group teaching 'first timers', those who are learning bass and guitar for the first time.

Teaching Approach:
I have been teaching privately for 7 years. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, I had also been teaching music in a secondary school in London. At the school, I had piano students as well as teaching guitar, singing and drums to help the students form bands.

My students range from absolute beginner to Grade 5 through the ABRSM and Trinity Rock & Pop syllabuses.

With beginner students I usually start with the absolute basics. I will work with the student to find their aims and long term goals, as well as just playing for fun. I like to incorporate music theory into every lesson as I believe it is fundamental in understanding and the enjoyment of playing music.

I am very patient, and interested in finding the best way each individual student learns.

I can travel to the students home for lessons.

I also offer lessons at my home in Forest Hill.

I have an electric piano, basses, guitar and amp. I also have a full home studio setup with recording software and HD webcams if any recordings or demos are needed.
