I have been lucky enough to have a career as a music teacher alongside my freelance professional oboe career, and currently work both privately and within Herts Music Service as a woodwind, piano and singing teacher. I also lead sectional coaching for term time and county groups, and conduct a Saturday Morning Music School Orchestra.
I teach a wide age range and capability range both privately in Berkhamsted, and across Hertfordshire County, from 5+ to my eldest pupil of 71!
Professionally, I freelance with orchestras mostly based in the UK, most recently with Ulster Orchestra in Belfast for the broadcast BBC Radio 3 Invitation Concert Series.
I also am an academic coach for Music GCSE and A Level, and have attended training courses on the new syllabus for both GCSE and A level.
Whilst I am comfortable teaching the clarinet/saxophone, as I have played both in many pit bands over my professional life, I only like to teach up to grade 5. Past this point, I feel they need a teacher that has trained specifically on this instrument, to the same level that I have on the oboe, to really extend and enhance their playing of that particular instrument.
I teach both children (5+) and adult learners - however, potential oboe beginner need to be at least 8 years old to cope with the breathing requirements of the instrument.
