Mr Nathan Isaac


Born and raised in the former coal-mining town of Maesteg, Nathan has recently graduated from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC), studying clarinet under the tutelage of Joanna Patton and Bass Clarinet under Mark O'Brien. During his time in Birmingham, Nathan has also received lessons from Sally Harrop, Anna Hashimoto, Oliver Janes, and Douglas Mitchell.

Nathan has partaken in masterclasses with many notable clarinettists, including Michael Collins (virtuoso clarinet), Annelien van Wauwe (former-BBC Radio 3 Next Generation Artist), Andrew Marriner and Chris Richards (both LSO). He has also taken part in numerous side-by-side sessions, most notably the prestigious CBSO Training Scheme.

In May 2018, Nathan featured on a broadcast of Classic FM's "The Full Works Concert" hosted by Catherine Bott as part of RBC's Pops Orchestra. In November 2018, he was part of RBC Symphony Orchestra's critically acclaimed concert featuring Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” and in March 2020, featured in BBC NOW’s St David’s Day concert as part of a project in conjunction with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales (NYOW) and Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne.

Nathan has been a member of the NYOW since 2019, where he worked with renowned conductor Maestro Andrew Litton. Nathan has also been a Member of the National Wind Orchestra of Wales (NYWOW) since 2015 where he has played world premieres by composers such as Hilary Tann and Rhian Samuel.

In addition to orchestral playing, Nathan enjoys outreach and education work, having recently taken part in Echo Eternal, a Holocaust memorial project commissioned by HM Government and also tutored musicians of the Cornwall Youth Orchestra and Wind Orchestra during their 2019 residency as part of RBC’s LEAP Ensemble. He also has experience in organising concerts, having recently organised a highly successful charity concert as part of his Final Year Project at RBC. The concert featured RBC’s clarinet department and members of CBSO’s clarinet section.

In his spare time, Nathan likes to cook, play golf and watch sport with his friends.
