Completed Educare child protection training course. (more)
Keeping Children Safe in Music is the latest in the EduCare's series of distance learning courses on child protection. The training programme uses short films to show a variety of good and bad practice examples, which will be available to watch online. It will help anyone teaching music to children gain a better understanding of their child protection responsibilities, and avoid situations that could lead to accusations of misconduct.

I am now teaching from home, both online (including pupils in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Lagos, Nigeria!) and in person. I generally use Zoom software for online teaching, and have a set-up with good cameras at the piano, so I am able to easily demonstrate things musically. I then email you after the lesson with a summary of the lesson and audio/video examples and scans of sheets, as necessary.

Full enhanced DBS/CRB check.

I have over ten years' experience as a piano teacher, and really enjoy helping my pupils realise their potential as musicians.

I teach from home where I have a fully-equipped teaching studio with a fantastic Boston Grand piano, Yamaha upright piano and lots of other equipment, including Nord keyboards.

I can also travel to you to teach, subject to an additional charge to cover the travel time.

I offer a discount if you book a block of ten lessons and pay up front.

I currently have several private pupils and teach jazz and classical piano at two South London schools (Dulwich College and Ibstock Place School), including running the jazz ensembles/big band. Previous teaching positions have included Wellington College, Wandsworth Music Service, National Youth Jazz Collective and Royal Academy of Music (Junior department).

Pupils have a 100% success rate (mostly with distinction) in their graded instrumental exams. However, I am more than happy to teach away from a formal syllabus, and aim to keep lessons fun, creative and rigorous, in order to make fast progress, for maximum enjoyment. I teach all ages, adults and children - please get in touch if you are interested in lessons. I no longer have space for total beginners, but am happy to teach jazz beginners who already have knowledge of other musical styles.

I have attended both university and music college so am in a good position to help with preparation for auditions or interviews.

Past students have received offers to study music full-time at Guildhall School of Music and Drama (jazz course), Oxford University, Liverpool University, Royal Academy of Music (jazz course), Birmingham Conservatoire (jazz course), Leeds College of Music (jazz course), RNCM (pop course), York University, Royal College of Music (composition, with a scholarship), Surrey University (Tonmeister course), IMEP (Paris) and include a BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year.

I regularly perform in London, as well as nationally and internationally. I have an album with my quartet and am currently working on the second one, and appear as a sideman on a number of recordings. See my website for details.
